How to play Hitori
Clear the duplicates by shading squares, without cutting the grid in two.
The rules
- Shade squares so no number repeats in any row or column among the unshaded squares.
- Shaded squares can't touch side by side (diagonal is fine).
- All the unshaded squares must stay connected in one group.
A quick example
There are two 2s in this row, so one must be shaded.
Tips
- A number between two equal numbers (like 3 in 2 3 2) stays unshaded: one of the 2s must go instead.
- Next to a shaded square, every neighbour must be unshaded. Mark them as safe.
- If shading a square would cut off a group of unshaded squares, it can't be shaded.
