How to play Kakuro
A crossword made of numbers. Each run of squares adds up to its clue.
The rules
- Fill each white square with a digit from 1 to 9.
- The number in a dark square is the total of the run to its right, or the run below it.
- A digit can't repeat within a run.
A quick example
Two different digits that make 4 must be 1 and 3.
Tips
- Look for runs with only one possible set of digits, like 3 in two squares (1+2) or 45 in nine squares (all digits).
- Where a horizontal and vertical run cross, the digit must suit both.
- Short runs with extreme totals are the best starting points.
