How to play Kakurasu
A shading puzzle where every square has a weight.
The rules
- In a row, each square is worth its column number: 1, 2, 3 and so on from the left.
- In a column, each square is worth its row number, counting from the top.
- Shade squares so each row's shaded weights add up to the clue on the right, and each column's to the clue below.
A quick example
Squares worth 2 and 4 make 6. So could 1 + 2 + 3, so the columns decide which.
Tips
- A clue of 1 means only the first square; the biggest possible clue means every square is shaded.
- Small clues have few combinations. Start there.
- Cross out squares you know are empty so you don't count them twice.
Most puzzles take 3 to 10 minutes.
